Very friendly helpful staff. Comfortable clean room. From the point of view of my visit good location.
It will be fine when finished. Certain items missing in room like coat hangers, hooks in bathroom and a waste bin!!

The restaurant was magnificent for breakfast, we ordered excellent dishes. We got a bright and budget room with a comfy bed. The location of the hotel was perfect - a 10-15 minute walk from Roman Fort. Loved the good area.

It was close to where we wanted to visit
That there where workmen working where we needed to walk to get to our room etc ! we where showed the room that we were staying in for 2 nights it was nice and roomie with plenty of room around the bed, then when we came back up with our bags we where told we where staying in another room and that was smaller not alot of room around the bed the kettle was on one side of the room and all the stuff you needed to make tea etc was on the other side so you had to carry everything around the room to make a drink and there where also no normal tea bags we had to ask for them and no milk also after the first night they didnt give any clean cups we washed our own and they hadnt even wiped up where we had made our cups of tea there also wasnt a bin to put your used tea bags we had to put them in the bathroom bin we wont stay there again

Good location.
Hotel in the midst of a refurbishment. Took along time to check in. Room nicely decorated but facing a wall. Shower in bathroom too small, unable to turn round.

Staff were friendly. Food was good.
Corridors to rooms were very narrow and a long walk.

large room with a lovely view but some dining issues
The room we stayed in was impressively spacious with a fine view of the castle from the window which added a lovely touch to our stay. The bathroom was meticulously cleaned and featured a deep bath that was perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Sadly, the gammon was rather dry and I missed having gravy with my pie.

Quirky period building with plenty of public rooms and fair sized bedrooms. Good food generally prepared with care.
Low water pressure meant shower did not work properly. Towels were changed only on personal request and refolded for next day use even when wet. No black beef on the menu and the steaks were very expensive and poor quality.

Very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Newly finished internal refurb gave it a nice, comfortable feel despite its 'travellers inn' age and history. The room I had allocated for an overnight business stay was ideal in size, cleanliness, facilities plus the menu options and the meal I selected was superb. Private car park. This stay was booked with a price offer at the time on the double room with single occupancy so this proved workable for me...not sure if I would pay the standard tariff, however, I would highly recommend.
The hotel is very definitely road-side in this small town and the a40 runs directly through carrying understandably a variety of traffic including hgv. These hgv were intermittently heard as they passed in the night only because of my room location. There are more than likely better placed rooms to the left side of the hotel. I would know this next time! Thats all...
